In response to President John Dramani Mahama's directive dated January 10, 2025,  Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has established a specialized investigative team at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to probe the election-related deaths from 2020 and 2024.

The team, led by Chief Superintendent Joseph Nanegbe, comprises highly skilled and experienced officers from the Ghana Police Service. They have been assigned specific timelines to complete their investigation and submit a comprehensive report to the IGP.

Dr. Dampare has assured the President that all necessary resources will be provided to the team to ensure a thorough and effective investigation. This initiative builds upon prior efforts by the IGP, including the establishment of the Cold Case Unit at the CID Headquarters in 2021, which has been actively investigating unresolved cases, including those related to the 2020 election-related deaths. Significant progress has been made, with some suspects currently facing prosecution.

President Mahama's directive underscores the government's commitment to ensuring accountability and justice for the victims of election-related violence, aiming to prevent such incidents in future electoral processes.
