In 1992, the Young Executives Forum (YEF) was formed by a group of dynamic business professionals within the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Over the years, YEF has been a financial pillar for the party. In 2007, I ran for the NPP presidential primaries but faced controversies and allegations. Despite these challenges, I supported Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the subsequent run-off to maintain party unity. However, post-primary attacks on my supporters and me persisted, leading to my resignation from the party. A reconciliation committee was formed, and I returned with promises to address the issues raised.
Service and Frustrations
I have served my country as Minister for Trade and Industry during NPP's term in office, leading successful initiatives like 1D1F, AfCFTA, and industrial development. Despite limited resources, I delivered significant achievements.
Resignation from NPP
On January 5, 2023, I resigned from my cabinet position to declare my intention to contest the NPP presidential primaries. However, I later withdrew from the race due to controversial decisions by the party's National Council. The Super Delegates Conference was biased, and decisions made contravened the party's constitution. The subsequent rule changes for the run-off were unjust.
New Movement for Change
The NPP I joined in 1992 no longer reflects its original values of fairness, transparency, and unity. To bring my experience to serve Ghana, I am resigning from the NPP to run as an Independent Presidential Candidate in the 2024 General Elections. I am establishing a "Movement for Change" with a vision to unite Ghana and address pressing issues.
Youth Empowerment and Employment
The youth, comprising 55% of voters, are the future but face challenges like unemployment and inadequate opportunities. Addressing these issues is crucial for our country's stability.
Four Dominant Themes for Change
Great Transformational Plan (GTP)The GTP aims to:
ConclusionI propose a new era of leadership, with an Independent Candidate as President, leading a Government of National Unity. This innovative approach can bridge political divides and promote effective governance.
To NPP members, you can still vote for your parliamentary candidate and me as President. To NDC members and smaller parties, consider participating in a Government of National Unity by supporting my candidacy.I invite all Ghanaians to join the Movement for Change. Together, we will make Ghana rise again!
