Families of South African Soldiers in the DRC Seek Government Communication

Families of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are anxiously awaiting updates from the government regarding the well-being of their loved ones. This concern arises after intensified clashes between the M23 rebel group and the Rwandan Defence Force around the city of Goma resulted in the deaths of 13 South African soldiers. President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his condolences to the bereaved families and expressed concern over the conditions faced by SANDF troops in the region. 


Nehawu Members Picket Against Ithala Bank Liquidation

Members of the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) have staged a picket outside the South African Reserve Bank's (SARB) regional offices in eThekwini. The protest is in response to the SARB's decision to freeze Ithala Bank's accounts, which has led to employees not receiving their salaries. Nehawu, along with political parties such as the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and ActionSA, has condemned the move, highlighting concerns over financial inclusion and economic transformation. 

SAPS Arrests Two Suspects in Putco Bus Arson Case

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the recent arson attacks on Putco buses in Mpumalanga. Two suspects, aged 29 and 37, have been arrested in connection with the torching of 51 buses across the Nkangala district. The arrests were the result of a coordinated effort led by acting provincial police commissioner Major-General Zeph Mkhwanazi. The motive behind the attacks remains under investigation.
